Zech and I will attend the victory party/election of the incoming officers of the junior Philippine society for Training and Development tom. It will be held in a resort in Laguna. Earlier i managed to say "hay, mapapalitan na rin ako". I remember saying this before the elections of the Behavioral Science Society. Starting tom, I would officially lose the positions I held for almost a year.
I have mixed feelings right at this moment. Sure, I had lots of good memories to remember being an officer of these two organizations. It was during this time that I learned what is the essence of true leadership. Still, i couldn't help but give a sig of relief. Before the start of my last school year, I attended two three-day leadership trainings. One was sponsored by UST and one was sponsored by Meralco foundation. I now realize that the things I learned in this trainings does not even come close to what I have learned through my first-hand experiences. Truly, the long hours of work, tears, stress and heartaches are all worth the learnings.
People might think that being an officer is all glamorous. Most of the time, belive me, it is not. I do believe that behind a leader is a box full of experiences, most of them, hurtful. Patience is indeed a virtue; and I can say that I learned this the HARD way. During this times, I wished that I could trade places with anyone. I wanted to say " Subukan niyo kayang maging ako? Try lang, Kahit isang araw. Tignan natin kung makakatagal ka." But I never did this. I always tell Zek "Ang hirap maging girlfriend si Dianne Fernandez noh?" And He wqould just shake his head, meaning to say no. He understands. He loves me. I know it was hard, even though he won't admit it. It is not easy to process papers for me or with me. It is not easy to wait for me while I have meetings; whether in UST or in the PSTD office. It is not easy to let a good movie pass by because we had to study or process papers. It is not easy to forget the fact that it is your birthday and you didn't even see your love. It is not easy to help plan the project of your grlfriend. It is not easy to carry myu bag. It is not easy to understand my sked. It is not easy to forget having a date in your monthsary because we had to od something. these things and more came with being a boyfriend of Dianne. These things, he endured.
One of most common questions during a job interview is: " How would you describe yourself". Now, I can confidently answer that: "I am, more than anything else, A LEADER. Not just an officer. A GOOD LEADER." Maybe the interviewer would follow up with a behavioral question" Is there an incident in the past which would prove that you're a GOOD LEADER?" "Ma'm they're too many incidents too mention but let me begin with......." (hehe...ang yabang mo dianne)
